A Kenmore badge tells you nothing about who built the machine or which parts fit it. Sears never manufactured Kenmore appliances — every one was built under contract by another manufacturer, and the only thing that identifies which one is the three-digit prefix before the decimal on the model plate. Most Canadian units trace back to Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire/Electrolux, GE, Samsung or Bosch, though the full list of builders is longer than that and a few prefixes route elsewhere. Sears Canada closed in 2018, so virtually every Canadian Kenmore still running in Montreal is at least eight years old — many are fifteen or twenty. Why doesn't my Kenmore washer's error code match any Kenmore chart?
Because there is no Kenmore washer code set — there are four. A 110-prefix machine is a Whirlpool: LF or Lo FL for a fill fault, F9E1 for a drain fault, F5E2 for the door or lid lock, F7E1 for motor speed, LdL when detergent buildup fouls the lid lock. A 796 is an LG and speaks a different language: OE drain, IE fill, UE unbalanced, dE door, LE motor locked, PE water-level sensor. A 417 is a Frigidaire — E11 fill time, E21 slow drain, E41 door switch, E5E control-to-inverter communication. A 592 is a Samsung — 4C supply, 5C drain, dC door, 3C motor. Same badge, four vocabularies.
What is my Kenmore dryer's airflow code actually telling me?
Four builders, four ways of saying the vent is blocked. A 110-prefix Whirlpool dryer shows AF or F4E3 for restricted airflow, and L2 when one leg of the 240-volt supply is missing — a blown fuse or tripped breaker, not a dryer fault. A 796 LG counts the restriction for you: d80, d90 and d95 mean roughly 80, 90 and 95 percent blocked, while FO means the lint filter is not seated and tE1–tE6 is a thermistor fault. A 417 Frigidaire throws E4A for exceeding maximum dry time, E64 for an open element circuit, E8C for repeated high-limit trips. A 592 Samsung uses HC or hE for overheating and C80/C90 for duct blockage. We service electric dryers only in Quebec.
Which Kenmore fridge codes point to a fan and which point to a board?
A 795-prefix Kenmore is an LG, and its Er codes name the failed fan directly: Er FF freezer fan, Er rF fridge-compartment fan, Er CF condenser fan, Er IF ice-maker fan, Er dH defrost heater, Er CO a board-to-display communication fault. A 253 is a Frigidaire, where SY EF is an evaporator-fan circuit failure — and because the display renders S like 5, owners in Verdun and Ahuntsic read it to us as 5Y EF. SY CE and SY CF are board communication failures; H1 simply means too warm. A 401 is a Samsung: 21E freezer fan, 22E or 22C fridge fan, 33E ice-pipe heater, 40E ice-room fan. A 106 Whirlpool shows PO only after an outage let the freezer rise to -8 °C or warmer.
Why do two Kenmore dishwashers throw different codes for the same clog?
Dishwashers are the most fragmented Kenmore category — five builders. A 665 is a Whirlpool: F8E4 base-pan flood, F6E4 an overfill float tripped by an out-of-level install, F6E3 suds. A 587 is a Frigidaire: i20 no drain, i40 clogged filter or sump, i10 low fill, i30 leak into the base pan, UO a stuck vent plunger. A 722 is an LG: OE drain, IE fill, FE overfill, HE heater, LE or CE motor. A 630 is a Bosch: E15 is the AquaStop base-tray float, E22 a blocked filter, E24 drain time exceeded, E25 a jammed pump impeller. A 363 is a GE: C1 slow drain, C2 no drain, C7 temperature sensor, H2O low water.
My Kenmore range shows F10 — what does that mean?
F10 belongs to the 790 prefix, which is a Frigidaire-built range, and it means thermal runaway: oven temperature climbing out of range, usually from a failed RTD oven sensor, a stuck relay or a faulty control. On that same 790 platform, F1 is a shorted keypad — one membrane key reading as permanently pressed — and F40 or F41 is a cooktop lock-out or control fault. A 664-prefix cooktop is Whirlpool-built: F0 or F00 means something is sitting on the touch panel, and F0E1 on induction means the pan is non-magnetic, too small or off-centre. A 362 or 911 range is GE-built, and many are electromechanical with no display at all. Quebec service is electric only.
What do the F-codes on a Kenmore wall oven mean?
It depends on the builder. A 665-prefix oven is a Whirlpool: F3E1 is the oven RTD temperature sensor, F5E1 a door-latch fault that usually surfaces after self-clean, F2E0 and F2E1 keypad faults, F9E0 a wiring error — typically L2 and neutral swapped on a fresh install — and LOC is only the control lock, not a failure. A 911-prefix oven is a GE, per GE's own published list: F3 is an open sensor and F4 a shorted one, F2 or F20 over-temperature, F9 or FC a door-lock circuit fault, F350 a cooling-fan circuit issue, FD a failed meat probe, F5/F8/FF a failed control board. A 790 Frigidaire oven uses F30 for an open probe, F31 for a shorted one.

Parts, platforms and what your model number tells us
Kenmore is a purchasing label, not a factory. Service identity lives in the three digits before the decimal: 110, 106, 665 and 664 are Whirlpool; 795 and 796 LG; 253, 417 and 790 Frigidaire/Electrolux; 362 and 911 GE; 592 and 401 Samsung; 630 Bosch. That covers the prefixes we hold verified code tables for — not every prefix Sears ever sold. Canadian units carry a C — C110 and C106 are Inglis, C362 Camco, C646 Admiral, C970 Electrolux. We order against the OEM part: the Whirlpool 285753 motor coupling, the LG 6501KW2002A hall sensor, the Samsung DC31-00054A drain pump, the Bosch 00423159 drain pump, sourced from that OEM's Canadian distributor. Prefixes 111, 183 and 651 — Winia, Haier and Speed Queen — have no verified code set; those we diagnose on site rather than substituting another manufacturer's chart.
Québec's Bill 29 and your right to repair
Quebec's Bill 29 became law on 5 October 2023 and took effect in stages. The ban on planned obsolescence applied from assent. The part that matters for an ageing appliance — the warranty that replacement parts, repair services and the information needed to repair or maintain a good remain available for a reasonable period, at a reasonable price, and that parts can be fitted with commonly available tools — came into force on 5 October 2025 as sections 39 to 39.7 of the Consumer Protection Act. The warranty of good working order for household appliances follows on 5 October 2026. Where a repair is requested, the Act gives the merchant or manufacturer ten days to respond in writing with the time they propose to take; where that response is not given, the Act's remedy is replacement with new or reconditioned goods of equivalent function, or reimbursement of the price — not a third-party repair bill. Kenmore sits outside most of this, because those obligations run against merchants and manufacturers and Sears Canada ceased operating in 2018. What remains for a Canadian Kenmore is the parts channel of whichever OEM actually built it. Kenmore repair in Montréal homes
Montreal's 1 July lease turnover is why so many Kenmores here have no history. Machines stay with the apartment or get sold to the incoming tenant, and the manual, the receipt and the model number go in the bin. The result is a city full of orphan appliances: a decades-old washer in a Plateau basement laundry room, a 253 fridge in a Verdun triplex, a 911 wall oven in a Saint-Leonard kitchen — nobody knows who built any of them. Canadian models begin with C.
Does the same error code mean the same thing on every Kenmore?
No, and this is where owners and generic charts go wrong. LE on a 796-prefix washer means the motor is locked — usually an overloaded drum or an object wedged under the wash plate. LE on a 592-prefix washer means a leak has been detected. OE on a 796 is a drain fault; OE on a 592 is an overflow. The prefix decides the meaning.
Sears Canada is gone — can parts still be sourced for a Kenmore?
Yes, because the part was never a Kenmore part. A 110-prefix washer takes Whirlpool components, a 796 takes LG, a 630 dishwasher takes Bosch. We confirm the full model number, cross-reference it to the OEM, then order through that manufacturer's Canadian distribution. Discontinued items do happen on 20-year-old machines; when a part is unavailable we say so plainly rather than stringing the repair out.
My Kenmore has no digital display and shows no code. Can it still be diagnosed?
Yes. A large share of Kenmores in Montreal predate fault codes entirely — most 911 and 362 ranges, 970 units, early 587 dishwashers, early 253 refrigerators and essentially anything pre-1980. No display means there is no code to read, and any chart claiming otherwise is guessing. We diagnose those by measurement: continuity, resistance and voltage at the component.
What does the C in front of my Kenmore model number mean?
It marks a Canadian-market unit, and the Canadian mapping is not the same as the American one. C110 and C106 were built by Inglis, Whirlpool's Canadian arm. C362, C363 and C968 came from Camco, GE Canada. C646 and C880 are Admiral-built by Inglis; C970 is Electrolux; C648 is Frigidaire. Bring us the C and we know the builder before we arrive.
Do you service Kenmore gas ranges and gas dryers in Quebec?
No. Our Quebec service covers electric appliances only — electric ranges, cooktops, wall ovens, electric dryers, refrigerators, washers and dishwashers. That is a scope decision, not a limitation of the technician.
