Why does my Frigidaire fridge show SY EF or 5Y CE?
SY EF is an evaporator-fan circuit failure: the fan behind the freezer's rear panel has died, iced over, or lost its harness connection, so the freezer holds while the fresh-food side climbs. On Frigidaire displays the S renders like a 5, which is why owners report it as 5Y EF — same code. SY CE and SY CF are communication failures between the main board and the user-interface board at power-up, and are usually a chafed harness rather than two dead boards. H1 simply means the cabinet is too warm: a door left ajar, a large warm load, or blocked return-air vents. We test fan winding and harness continuity before condemning a board.
What do the E-codes on a Frigidaire washer mean?
Frigidaire and Electrolux front-loaders — the Affinity and Gallery families among them — report faults as E-codes. E11 is fill time too long: a partly closed shut-off, kinked or reversed inlet hoses, or a weak inlet valve. E21 and EF1 both point at drainage; EF1 specifically flags a blocked pump filter. E23 is the drain-pump relay on the control board, not the pump. E41 means the control sees the door open, while E42 is the opposite — the lock will not release after the cycle, which is the "finished but won't open" call. E13 is a tub or air-bell leak. E5E and E5F are control-to-motor-inverter communication faults. EF2 is simply too much detergent.
Why is my Frigidaire dryer showing E64 or E4A?
E64 is an open heating-element circuit — a burned-out element, a blown thermal fuse, or open wiring in the heat circuit. On a 240 V electric dryer we meter the element and the fuse before ordering either. E5B is the broader no-heat fault, covering supply, element and the control's heat circuit. E4A means the dryer exceeded its maximum drying time and E8C means the high-limit thermostat keeps tripping — both are airflow problems, not heat problems: a crushed transition duct, a lint-packed vent, or a long horizontal run to the outside wall. E24 and E25 are thermistor errors. E68 is a stuck console key, and E AF, shown as AF, is a failed main control board.
What does an i20 or i30 mean on a Frigidaire dishwasher?
Frigidaire dishwashers use lower-case i codes. i20 means the machine did not drain — a clogged filter and sump, a kinked drain hose, or the knockout plug still sitting inside a newly installed garburator. i40 is the narrower version: sump, glass trap and filter packed with food soil. i10 is the opposite problem, low fill, from a supply valve not fully open, a pinched line, or a weak inlet valve. i30 means the base-pan float tripped on a leak or overflow — stop the cycle and call. UO is a vent that failed to close, from a stuck vent assembly or wax motor. CL and Cd mean the door is not latched. PF just logs a power interruption mid-cycle.
Why is my Frigidaire range beeping F1 or locked out with F40?
F1 on a Frigidaire electric range means the control senses a key held down — a shorted membrane keypad or a failed EOC. Cutting power at the breaker for about 30 seconds is the documented reset; if F1 returns, the keypad or the control is the repair. F40 and F41 are cooktop lock-out or cooktop-control faults, so check whether the lock function is engaged before assuming a board. One thing we will not sell you: Electrolux, with Health Canada and the CPSC, reannounced a recall in 2024 covering Frigidaire and Kenmore smooth-top ranges built 2001–2009 whose elements can switch on by themselves. What causes F30, F31 or F10 on a Frigidaire oven?
These codes all run through the RTD temperature probe and the EOC, Frigidaire's electronic oven control. F30 is an open probe circuit: a healthy RTD reads roughly 1100 ohms at room temperature, so one meter reading at the control plug tells us whether the probe or the wiring failed. F31 is the shorted version of the same circuit. F10 is thermal runaway — the cavity keeps climbing past setpoint, usually a drifted RTD or a welded relay; shut the breaker off and stop using the oven. F11 is a shorted keypad on an EOC-integrated console, which normally means replacing the EOC. F90 through F94 are door-lock motor faults on self-clean models, and F3, F20 and F26 are UI-to-control communication errors.

Frigidaire is an Electrolux brand, and the two share control architecture — which is why the codes group by letter. Washers and dryers report E-codes (E11, E21, E41, E64), dishwashers report lower-case i-codes (i10, i20, i30, i40), and ranges and wall ovens report F-codes tied to the EOC and the RTD probe. The letter narrows the platform but does not always name the appliance: E11 is a fill-time fault on a washer and part of a control-communication group (E10 · E11 · E12) on a dryer, and refrigerators sit outside the pattern entirely with SY EF, SY CE, SY CF and H1. The lineage runs further: Kenmore appliances whose model number starts 253, 417 or 790 were built by Frigidaire/Electrolux, so they take the same parts and throw the same codes. Québec's Bill 29 and your right to repair
Quebec's Bill 29 (2023, chapter 21) amended the Consumer Protection Act. It was assented to on 5 October 2023 and came into force mostly on that date; the replacement-parts and repair-services warranty, and the regulation that clarifies it, took effect on 5 October 2025. For the goods it covers, it requires manufacturers and merchants to make replacement parts, repair services and the information needed to maintain and repair the goods — including diagnostic software — available for a reasonable period at a reasonable price, with parts installable using commonly available tools and without irreversible damage to the appliance. A consumer who requests a repair is to be told in writing, within 10 days, the timeline proposed for it; a consumer who declines a proposal that conforms to the Act may have the work done by a third party, whose reasonable costs the merchant or manufacturer assumes. Frigidaire repair in Montréal homes
Some of Montreal's Frigidaire ranges were built nearby. Electrolux made cooking appliances for its North American operations at L'Assomption in Lanaudière, northeast of Montreal. It announced the plant's closure on 14 December 2010, began transferring production to Memphis in mid-2012, and scheduled final closure for the fourth quarter of 2013; roughly 1,300 people worked there. Any L'Assomption-era range is now well over a decade old, and age is what drives the F30, F31 and F10 family of faults — an RTD probe drifting out of tolerance, or an EOC relay failing. That is one of the reasons an older range in Saint-Léonard or Ahuntsic ends up needing an EOC rather than a $40 part.
