Maytag sells its laundry line on durability: the Maytag Commercial Technology badge covers commercial-grade parts, including the direct drive motor and the stainless steel wash basket that carry the brand's 10-year limited parts warranty. When one of those machines does fail, the fault is rarely the part people expect.
Number One Appliance Repair services Maytag washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers and electric ranges across the Plateau, Rosemont, Verdun, NDG, Saint-Laurent, LaSalle, Ahuntsic, Saint-Léonard, Laval, the West Island and the South Shore.
We are an independent repair company. We have no affiliation with, endorsement from, or trade accreditation from Maytag or Whirlpool. Maytag is a trademark of its owner and is used here only to identify the appliances we service. Master Technician Robert G. leads the work; Red Seal technician Ivan fact-checks what we publish.

What do Maytag washer codes F7E1, F9E1 and F5E2 mean?
F7E1 is a motor speed error: the basket never reaches commanded speed. On MVW-prefix top-loaders (Bravos, Centennial) that usually traces to the shift actuator that moves the drive between agitate and spin, to an unbalanced load, or to shipping bolts left in after a new install. F9E1 is a drain fault: a drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe, a clogged pump filter, or a blocked door-seal drain hole. F5E2 and LdL are lid or door lock faults: an obstruction, a lid not fully closed, or detergent buildup fouling the lock. Sud, Sd or 5d means too much or non-HE detergent. F8E1 on MHW front-loaders, and LF or Lo FL on top-load HE machines, are fill faults. HC means the hot and cold hoses were swapped at install.
Why does a Maytag dryer show AF or L2?
AF, also shown as F4E3, is restricted airflow: a clogged lint screen, a crushed or kinked vent, or a long duct run choked with lint. It is the most common Maytag dryer call we take. L2 means low or no line voltage reaching the heater — a blown fuse, a tripped breaker, or one leg of the 240-volt supply missing — which is why the drum still tumbles while the air stays cold. PF only logs a power interruption mid-cycle; restart the cycle. Maytag's heavy-duty drum rides on support rollers, WPW10314173 on the Whirlpool-family 27-inch platform, and a squeal that rises with drum speed is usually rollers or the idler pulley, not the motor. In Quebec we service electric dryers only.
What causes Maytag dishwasher codes F8E4, F6E4 and F6E3?
F8E4 means water in the base pan: a leak or loose connection has tripped the flood float, and an MDB-prefix Maytag dishwasher stays locked out until the leak is found and the float resets. F6E4 is an overfill or float-switch error caused by an out-of-level installation — a frequent finding in older Montreal plexes, where a settled century-old kitchen floor leaves the machine sitting nose-down. F6E3 is foam: wrong detergent, too much of it, or a missing rinse-aid cap. Standing water with no code on the display is usually a blocked sump, a chopper jammed on debris, or a drain check valve stuck open.
What does the PO alert mean on a Maytag refrigerator?
PO is the power-outage alert on Maytag French-door and side-by-side refrigerators. The control logged the freezer reaching 18°F (-8°C) or warmer while power was off. After a Hydro-Quebec outage, judge the food first, then press the indicated button to clear it — PO is a record, not a fault. Genuine Maytag cooling failures throw no code at all. A fridge that clicks every few minutes and stops humming points at the compressor start relay. A warm fresh-food side with a still-cold freezer is normally a seized evaporator fan motor or a frost-blocked air damper. Water under the crisper drawers means the defrost drain is frozen shut.
Why is my Maytag cooktop dead or showing F0?
F0 or F00 on an MER-prefix Maytag electric range means the control panel senses an obstruction — a spill, a pot pushed against the touch area, or baked-on soil holding a key down. Clean and dry the glass and it usually clears on its own. LOC or Loc is just Control Lock; hold the lock pad to release it. A single radiant element that will not glow is almost always the infinite switch behind the knob or a burnt element, not the control board. A coil burner that arcs or sparks needs the element and its receptacle block replaced together. In Quebec we work on electric ranges and cooktops only.
What do Maytag oven codes F3E1, F5E1 and F2E0 mean?
F3E1 is an oven temperature-sensor (RTD) fault — an open or shorted probe or its wiring — and it is why a Maytag oven bakes well off its setpoint or refuses to preheat. F5E1 is a door-latch fault: the lock motor or switch is not reporting the correct state, most often after a self-clean cycle, which can leave the door locked shut. F2E0 and F2E1 are user-interface faults, usually a stuck key on the membrane keypad. F9E0 or F9 is an electrical wiring fault, typically L2 and neutral swapped, and it shows up right after a new install rather than on a range that has worked for years. Uneven baking with no code is generally the convection fan motor or a failed bake element.

Parts, platforms and what your model number tells us
Whirlpool Corporation completed its acquisition of Maytag in 2006, and the last washers and dryers came off the Newton, Iowa lines in October 2007. Everything built since sits on Whirlpool platforms, which is why a Maytag speaks Whirlpool-family F#E# and why its service parts carry WP- and W- prefixes. Many MVW-prefix top-loaders, including Bravos and Centennial models, use the VMW — vertical modular washer — design; the larger Bravos XL machines use the rotor-and-stator direct-drive platform instead, so the model number decides the parts, not the badge. Because the family shares components, we stock cross-compatible Whirlpool-family parts: WPW10314173 drum rollers for the 27-inch dryer platform, and, for the older direct-drive transmission washers still in service across the city, 285753 motor couplings and WP3363394 drain pumps. Pre-2006 Newton-built machines, including the LAT-prefix Dependable Care top-loaders still running in Montreal basements, use Maytag's own architecture and take different parts again.
Québec's Bill 29 and your right to repair
Quebec's Bill 29 (2023, chapter 21) was assented to on 5 October 2023, and the prohibition on planned obsolescence took effect that same day. Its repair provisions, sections 39 to 39.7 of the Consumer Protection Act, took effect 5 October 2025: replacement parts, repair services and the information needed to maintain or repair a good must be available for a reasonable time and at a reasonable price, parts must be installable with commonly available tools without causing irreversible damage to the good, and after a consumer's request the merchant or manufacturer has 10 days to advise in writing of the time within which they propose to carry out the repair. Those obligations sit with the manufacturer and the merchant who sold the appliance, not with an independent repairer. We describe the statute; we do not give legal advice.
Maytag repair in Montréal homes
Maytag's commercial-grade pitch is part of why it turns up in Montreal's plexes. A duplex or triplex owner in Rosemont, Verdun or Hochelaga buys one washer and one dryer for a shared basement laundry, and that pair carries several households' loads instead of one. Shifter assemblies, lid locks, suspension and drum rollers are wear items, and a heavier duty cycle uses them up faster than the same machine sees in a single-family West Island home. These appliances also stay with the building through tenant turnovers, so the manual and the receipt are usually long gone. We read the model number off the plate on site.
What Montréal customers say about their Maytag repairs
Robert Ghaleb was very quick at diagnosing the problem with my Maytag dishwasher. He knows his stuff and educated me on a proper maintenance of dishwashers. Machine running like new again after his work. Highly recommended.
Robert showed up during the window that he had provided and fixed my Maytag washing machine very quickly. I appreciate his transparency and would call him again for another repair.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Maytag the same as a Whirlpool for repair purposes?
For anything built after the 2006 acquisition, largely yes: the same F#E# fault-code language, the same VMW and front-load platforms, and service parts carrying Whirlpool WP- and W- prefixes. Pre-2006 Newton-built Maytags are a different machine with different parts. We are an independent company and are not affiliated with either brand.
Does Maytag's 10-year limited parts warranty cover my repair visit?
No. That warranty covers parts only, and only specific ones: the wash basket drive motor and the stainless steel wash basket, from the second through the tenth year. It does not cover labour or a service call. Read your own warranty document, then call us. Our diagnostic is a flat $149.95, credited toward the repair.
Do you repair Maytag gas dryers and gas ranges in Montreal?
No. In Quebec our scope is electric appliances, so we service MED-series electric dryers, MER-series electric ranges and electric cooktops. We do not do gas work in Quebec. If your Maytag is a gas model, you need a licensed gas contractor instead. Call (514) 416-1144 and we will tell you plainly rather than book a visit.
My Maytag top-loader shows F7E1 and will not spin. Is it worth fixing?
Usually yes. F7E1 is a motor speed error, and on MVW top-loaders it most often traces to the shift actuator that shifts the drive between agitate and spin, or to an unbalanced load. That is a bolt-on component, not a new transmission. We confirm the fault on site for the flat $149.95 diagnostic before quoting any repair.
My Maytag fridge shows PO after a Hydro-Quebec outage. Is it broken?
Probably not. PO is the power-outage alert on Maytag French-door and side-by-side models: it records that the freezer reached 18°F (-8°C) or warmer while power was off. Judge the food on its own merits, then press the indicated button to clear the alert. If the fridge still will not cool once power returns, that is a separate fault.
Can you service a Maytag in a rented duplex or triplex laundry room?
Yes. We work in shared basement and back-hall laundry rooms across the Plateau, Rosemont, Verdun, LaSalle, Ahuntsic, Saint-Leonard and Hochelaga. Someone with access to the room needs to meet the technician, and we book from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM, seven days. If nobody has the paperwork, we read the model plate ourselves.
